I've had the good fortune lately to be asked not only design a book cover, but to also write a blog post for writers about book covers.
I didn't end up placing in the finals of the last flash fiction contest I entered, so it was nice to have something else to focus on!
The book cover I designed was for a flash fiction anthology, which can be tricky because you've got to represent a wide range of stories and authors. They did have a theme, however, and their title, Writings to Stem Your Existential Dread, told me a lot about the feel they were going for. I submitted two cover designs, and was lucky that one of them was selected.
We worked together to make it exactly what they wanted, and we were both happy with the end product:
The anthology is available for Kindle pre-order at Amazon now, with a paperback option to follow, if you're interested in checking it out.
My book cover blog post went live last week over at The Writers Workout. It's a great site that has advice for writers, and runs contests like The Writers Games. You can read my book cover post here.
Next up for me is the NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge, which kicks off this weekend. I made it to the finals last year, so it's my goal this time around to not only make it, but to place! I'll be posting both my stories and my progress here.
I'd also love to design some more book covers, and I've set up a side gig on Fiverr offering my services, for both book covers and logos. Fiverr is a great place where freelancers of all types can offer their services for a wide range of prices. It's cool, check it out!
